RECOGNIZING IMMIGRANT SUCCESS IN EDMONTON (RISE) Awards
RISE Awards is hosted by the Newcomer Centre, to celebrate the incredible contributions of newcomers and immigrants who have helped shape a stronger, more inclusive community.
The RISE Awards highlights the resilience, determination, and excellence of individuals, organizations, and businesses committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusivity. These awards acknowledge and honour those who go above and beyond in creating a welcoming environment for all.
Award Categories
Equity in Action Award sponsored by Chartered Professional Accountants Alberta                       Celebrates organizations or businesses committed to building an inclusive environment reflective of the larger society. The award acknowledges those who have taken concrete steps to ensure that all employees, regardless of their background, are treated fairly and have equal access to opportunities, resources, and benefits. This category encourages appreciation for immigrants’ skills, experience, and workplace contributions.
LGBTQIA+ Equity Award
Honours a business or organization demonstrating leadership in advocating for equal rights and the well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community, setting an example for inclusivity and equality.
Intercultural Community Impact Award
Recognizes businesses and organizations that champion diversity and cultural contributions while promoting inclusive communities and respect for all cultures.
Community Champion Award sponsored by the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF)
Celebrates individuals or groups for exceptional leadership and advocacy for newcomer equity, volunteering, and commitment to social justice.
Artist of the Year Award
Showcases the artistic talents of an immigrant who has enriched Edmonton’s cultural landscape through their work, bridging communities with the power of art.
Woman of the Year Award
Honours an immigrant woman who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and perseverance in overcoming immigration challenges, making significant contributions to her community.
Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by the Newcomer Centre
Pays tribute to an immigrant who has made long-lasting contributions to fostering inclusive, equitable communities over the span of a decade or more.
Rising Star Youth Award Sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)
Recognizes young immigrants (aged 13-25) who show exceptional potential and achievements in their personal, academic, or community endeavours, driving change and inspiring others.
