Youth Leading Change

Empowering newcomer youth (ages 15 – 21) to develop or enhance personal life and leadership skills through meaningful community and volunteer contributions, and to explore diverse career path options through interactive learning opportunities.

How Does the Program Work?

Intake 

  • Two ten-month Cohorts: Cohort 1 – 53 participants Cohort 2 – 54 participants.
  • Those interested will be put on a waitlist to be invited to join programing until all cohorts are full.

Programming

  • Program will run during evening and weekends through the school year and during weekdays and weekends during the Summer.
  • Participants will engage in skill-building and career planning sessions while completing 120 volunteer hours, which include all program activities and expected community involvement.

Participant Support

  • Two facilitators will split the group of 53, working with approx. 27 participants each hosting group activities and 1-1 sessions. 
  • The Youth Career & Employment will work with all participants per cohort through group sessions and 1-1 sessions. 
  • Guest speakers of various careers will be invited to speak to participants for Career Days.

Eligibility

  • Newcomer youth – aged 15 to 21 
  • All genders are welcome
  • Comfortable with conversational English
  • Availability to commit to a 10-month cohort term that includes time outside of school hours and during the summer school break.

Schedule

  • Cohort 1 – May 2025 – February 2026 (10 months)
  • Cohort 2 – May 2026 – February 2027 (10 months)
