Terence Sakwe is a committed community leader who advocates for the inclusion of people of African Descent. He is now joining the Board of Directors of the Newcomer Centre, bringing with him a wealth of experience in governance, risk management, and community-centered leadership that will strengthen the organization’s mission to support newcomers. He has served as a leader in various community organizations, and he also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Africa Centre.
He holds a postgraduate degree in law and a diploma in Risk Management from MacEwan University. He is also a certified insurance professional in Canada with extensive experience in risk management, administration, and international governance. Terence previously served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Republic of Chad and Côte d’Ivoire, where he worked in administrative and legal capacities, contributing to governance, accountability, and peacekeeping operations in complex international environments. This global perspective reinforces his ability to navigate complex systems and support diverse communities—an asset to the Newcomer Centre’s evolving work.
Terence has remained actively involved in community leadership and public service in Alberta, promoting diversity, inclusion, and social engagement. Terence currently works as a Senior Risk Consultant within the Insurance and Risk Management branch of the City of Edmonton, where he continues to contribute to public sector leadership and community development. His combined expertise in public service, governance, and community advocacy positions him to make a meaningful impact on the Newcomer Centre’s board.
