Thank you for considering the Edmonton Newcomer Centre as a place to volunteer your talents!

We have more than 150 volunteers who are the backbone of the Newcomer Centre, and together, we support newcomers to not only build their new lives in Edmonton but thrive here.

While our volunteers come from diverse walks of life, they share their passion for community and desire to make a meaningful difference and make lasting friendships from around the world.

What We Expect from You

At the Newcomer Centre, we do our best to vet some of Edmonton’s finest and most caring people. We expect our volunteers to conduct themselves with respect and professionalism, which means:

We treat all clients, staff, and volunteers with respect.
Volunteers will commit to at least 3 months at a time, as most of our programs require time to build trust with clients.
Volunteers will also be willing to be present, participate fully, and take direction.
Volunteers will communicate and work well with the team.

Volunteers should also

Be in harmony with the Newcomer Centre Vision, Mission & Values, Confidentiality Statement and Privacy Policy, as well as our Code of Ethics for Volunteers
Provide the names and contact details of 2 references
Complete a Police Information Check (PIC) that includes a Vulnerable Sector Search
Complete a Government of Alberta Intervention Record Check if applying to work with a youth program.
