Shifting Mindsets: Transforming newcomer retention from challenge to competitive advantage.

Overview

Cultural Advantage is a social enterprise of  Edmonton Newcomer Centre, designed to enable Alberta employers to grow and thrive, on the strength of their diverse, engaged workforces. The aim is to achieve this by creating interculturally robust work environments that allow workers to feel more stable, happy, and fulfilled.

For over 40 years, we have supported immigrants and refugees in Edmonton and surrounding area. We have continuously worked with employers from all industries to help them better understand their newcomer workers.  However, the majority of the responsibility for adaptation has always fallen on the shoulders of those newcomers.  In order for employers to attract and retain newcomer talent, they need to have some skills in adaptation themselves in the form of enhanced intercultural competency.  This way, they can benefit from the multicultural workforce in Alberta and better serve the growing amount of potential newcomer clients.

A shared responsibility that prepares our city and province for the future realities of immigration and employment for employers and businesses.

Outcome

Our goal is to jointly create a more welcoming work environment for newcomers, and a more content and productive workforce for employers.
