Global Girls
Global Girls is a safe space for young women to make new connections, build their self-confidence, and explore their identities.
- An empowering place to feel like they belong
- Connections to peers and role models who share similar experiences
- Opportunities to try fun activities and learn from each other
I-WIN
I-WIN (Immigrant Women’s Integration Network) is for immigrant women in Edmonton to quickly access the tools they need; allowing them to achieve their goals and participate fully in Canadian economic, cultural, and social life. This will look different for each woman, but it is rooted in the power of joining together to pool experience, knowledge, and resources.
I-WIN is about empowering women to create the lives they envision for themselves in Canada. Â
Global Garden
Global Garden engages newcomer and Canadian-born gardeners to work together and learn from each other by growing vegetables, flowers and fruit on our plot at Edmonton Urban Farm.
- Meeting new people, and working as part of a team towards a common goal
- Spending time outdoors and being active
- Sharing their gardening knowledge and experience, and learning from others
- Opportunities to harvest and take home produce from the garden
Therapeutic & Counselling Services
Because of the upheaval that comes with moving to and settling in a new country, newcomers bring challenges that make them vulnerable to high stress, isolation, role shifts, and financial difficulties that can result in marital strife and high rates of parent-child conflict. Newcomers sometimes bring with them trauma related to war, conflict and deprivation which often results in symptoms of PTSD, depression or anxiety, limiting their abilities to successfully integrate. Difficulties of acculturation and expectations for themselves and their families back home also result symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Newcomer Centre offers therapeutic and counselling services with a unique, holistic and community-oriented approach.
YLC - Youth Leading Change
Empowering newcomer youth (ages 15 – 21) to develop or enhance personal life and leadership skills through meaningful community and volunteer contributions, and to explore diverse career path options through interactive learning opportunities.
