Settlement Information Sessions
To help orient newcomers, Newcomer Centre offers group information sessions on various topics, including:
- General overview of Canada and its history
- Local and national sources of information in 15 other settlement areas including rights & freedoms, education, transportation, housing and more.
Sessions held in-person on the last Wednesday of each month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MST. After the info session, Newcomer Centre can book a personal follow-up session if you’re interested.

Newcomer Centre offers group information sessions for first-time Canadian citizenship applicants.
Sessions held in-person on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 – 3:00 pm MST.

Newcomer Centre offers group information sessions on how to apply for Permanent Resident status in Canada. These sessions are specifically for individuals with a current status of Protected Person with Positive Notice of Decision Letter.
Sessions held in-person on the third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 – 3:00 pm MST.

Agency Information Sessions
As part of our community engagement, the Newcomer Centre offers one-hour complimentary Information Sessions to learn more about why we exist, a bit of our history, as well as what we do and how we do it across our diverse and inclusive programming.
Audience: These sessions are intended for:
- Employers, researchers and other organizations interested in partnering with Newcomer Centre,
- Individuals interested in a career with the Newcomer Centre,
- Individuals interested in serving as one of our volunteer Board of Directors, and
- Members of the community and other organizations that would like to know more about how to support newcomers to thrive in the Edmonton area.
Sessions are held:
- In-person at our Newcomer Centre – downtown Edmonton location
- On Wednesdays throughout 2025.

The Edmonton Newcomer Centre offers 2.5-hour, in-person Volunteer Information Sessions to:
- Learn about the volunteer opportunities available through the Newcomer Centre,
- Learn about some of our community partners and other non-profit organizations, and what they have available for volunteer positions. Each session has guest speaker(s) from community agencies.
Sessions are held monthly – except for July and August when there are no sessions – and in-person at our Newcomer Centre downtown location. Full details sent to registered guests only.
AUDIENCE: These sessions are intended for:
- Newcomers looking for Canadian volunteer opportunities.
- Those who are interested in meaningful volunteerism in our community.

Sep. 2 – Oct. 17 – Applications Open for Anne Falk Memorial Education Endowment Fund
Anne Falk, a nurse, was a founder and original staff member back in 1981 of the Edmonton Newcomer Centre (formerly known as the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers or EMCN). She exemplified a person who devoted her life to the service of God by serving fellow human beings. She had a particular love for the Vietnamese people, with whom she worked closely for many years. Anne passed away in 1998, and the Anne Falk Memorial Education Fund was created through the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers to honour her legacy of service to others and encourage young people to follow a career of their choice in a service field.
We encourage all eligible candidates who are passionate about making a difference in health service-oriented fields to apply.
To be eligible, you must be:
- First or second-generation immigrant.
- Living AND studying in Edmonton.
- Pursuing a health-related field of study.
- Enrolled in full or part-time studies of at least 4 months in duration.
- Enrolled in first- or second-year studies in a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree program.
